Job Description

Serco provides integrated facilities management services to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. With over 650 employees, our services include portering, security, cleaning, catering, switchboard, estates and water management.

Due to promotion we are seeking a highly skilled HR Generalist to support operations and the delivery of business goals. As a member of the Leadership Team this role carries a high degree of responsibility, you must therefore be able to offer sound business solutions to a wide range of issues affecting a diverse workforce.

In addition to typical day to day ER issues, you must relish customer-facing roles and demonstrate evidence of having forged excellent relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

The epitome of professionalism and capable of working at all levels, you will be involved in multiple project work requiring innovation and strategic thinking. The ability to prioritise and deliver to deadlines is fundamental. You will assist Senior Managers deal with performance management, attrition reduction and talent development, as well as normal HR duties. You should have a solid base of working in a HR generalist capacity, undertaking personal responsibility for a wide range of HR work and preferably be part or fully CIPD qualified. Knowledge of TUPE and dealing with Unions is beneficial. The role would be ideal for someone who can go the extra mile.

Job Description

Title: Human Resources Manager

1 Main Purpose of the Job
To provide leadership and support in human resource issues to ensure the implementation of the Serco HR strategy and operational plans.

2 Position in Organisation:
The Human Resources Manager will report directly to the Contract Director and is a member of the Leadership Team. ________________________________________________________________

3 Scope of Job: Leadership and Strategy

• Develop a strategic approach to human resource development and management to ensure the effective implementation of the Serco strategy and operational plans.
• Ensure that HR issues are given full consideration in all decision making.
• Uphold the values and principles of Serco’s ‘Governing Principles’ within human resources policies and practice, leading by example.
• Provide specialist support and advice to managers on a wide range of ER, L&D and Resourcing issues including active support in matters of disciplinary, grievance and appeals.
• Monitor and review practices as part of a holistic HR systems to ensure legal compliance and adherence to company standards with a strong focus on cost reduction and performance management.
• Develop and implement strategic approaches to the management of occupational health, safety and well-being to effectively manage absence to Group and local targets
• Provide support to managers and employees on HR and organisational development issues.
• Manage relationships with local and regional trade unions, acting as the lead for the formal meeting.
• To ensure that employees can access development opportunities in order to help them reach their full potential and enhance organizational learning by overseeing the central training budget.
• Ensure the effective consultation, communication and implementation of HR policies and processes in a timely and effective manner with key stakeholders.
• Contribute to the planning and delivery of people focused solutions and human resources practices to promote continuous improvement and equal opportunities within the Service.
• Contribute, as part of the management team, to wider business issues including service planning and delivery.

Essential Key skills
• Up-to-date knowledge of employment law and management best practice
• Able to demonstrate an understanding of the commercial issues affecting a business in this industry.
• Able to demonstrate value added HR practices.
• Effective problem solving and analysis skills
• Ability to create professional business communications
• Ability to take charge of a situation using own initiative to reach an effective decision
• Ability to communicate effectively and develop good working relationships with people at all levels including trade unions
• Part or full CIPD qualified
• Excellent prioritization and administrative skills, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Desirable
• Previous experience of payroll systems
• Previous service industry experience
• L&D focused
• SAP experience
