Job Description

 

 

Training Manager at a Global Law Firm - Hong Kong and Asia - £60k

Responsible to:  Directly to Training Partner (Asia) and International Managing Partner - Asia Region; indirectly to Director of Practice and Organisation Development or nominee

Group:   Member of Training and Development team

Liaison with:  Training and Development Team, Know-how Lawyers, Human Resource team and other support teams throughout the world as may be required from time to time

Main aims of post:  To deliver our Training Curriculum in the Asia region and contribute fully to initiatives aimed at raising individual and team performance throughout the Asia region.

Responsibilities

  • To become expert in delivering our training curriculum (including International Academies, Fit in an hour sessions and Master-classes) in Asia(supported by members of the wider Training and Development team) and for the International Academies aimed at senior associates and partners to participate in the delivery of programmes currently held only in London. (For details of programmes see attachments)
  • To be involved in delivering and developing programmes to support the development needs of support staff in the Asia region.
  • To design and / or deliver training and development programmes, and revise in liaison with the relevant member of the Training and Development team our portfolio of programmes as appropriate to the needs of those working in the Asia region.
  • To undertake needs analyses, produce project plans, conduct associated research, and deliver new programmes aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of those working in the Asia region.
  • To discuss and develop with associates and trainees working in the Asia region individual Professional Development Plans following their appraisal and support their achievement through training and development programmes, individual coaching and otherwise.
  • To undertake needs analyses, produce project plans, conduct associated research, and deliver programmes to external clients of the Asia offices.
  • To participate fully in the work of the Training and Development Team and work closely with other support teams as may be required from time to time.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.

Full training and support will be given on the programmes and courses which the appointee will be expected to deliver in the Asia region.

Person Specification:  Essential (E); Desirable (D)

Experience and Qualities

  • Experience of providing training (E)
  • Experience of working as a lawyer (D) or qualified as a lawyer (E)
  • Experience of working in a legal practice or professional services environment (E)
  • Committed to excellence and prepared to use initiative and learn (E)
  • Creative and dynamic (E)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (E)
  • Proven forward planning skills and the ability to manage own workload and prioritise effectively (E)
  • High levels of computer literacy and competence (E)
  • Sense of pride in work, willing and able to take responsibility and operate as a team player (E)
 Demonstrable interest in meeting the needs of internal and external clients (E)
  • Ability to communicate in one of more Asia languages would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite for this role.


Location

The training will be delivered to our lawyers across Asia. Some of this (particularly shorter courses) will be delivered in each office. International academies will most likely be delivered in Thailand as they will be attended by lawyers from a number of offices.

The appointee is not required to live in Thailand but may choose to live in Bangkok or, if preferred, in Hong Kong or Singapore.  Relatively frequent travel within the Asia region and occasionally to and from the London office will be required.
