Do you have a strong ER background within the retail or similar sector??

You will be a well versed case work professional - either an ER Manager or Advisor looking to make the right move into your career.

Providing sound ER advice

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of employment legislation & company policy and procedure
  • Provide efficient and practical employee relations advice and support to Line Managers on ER cases and employment legislation both face to face and over the phone
  • Ability to challenge Line Managers on their management of process and the decisions they make to ensure consistency and fairness.
  • Ensure the correct utilisation of tools and templates and adherence to policies
  • Demonstrates empathy and objectivity when dealing with ER issues

Developing line management expertise

  • Influence and develop line managers to take ownership and accountability for the performance and development of their team members
  • Coach managers in building their ER competence and skill
  • Design and deliver training for line managers to improve ER skills and capability to proactively manage issues
  • Create template letters and processes to provide guidance and structure for line managers

Supporting in ER cases

  • Ensure prompt and effective case management of all employee relations issues including disciplinaries, grievances, absence management, performance management, flexible working, maternity, retirement, TUPE and redundancies
  • Support managers by attending formal meetings as appropriate and note-taking
  • Escalate more complex cases to ER Consultant or ER Manager
  • Assist in relevant preparation for the redundancy and TUPE consultation process
  • Support preparation for employment tribunal cases and ensure that any Data Subject Access Requests are completed on time and to required standard
  • Keep accurate & timely information in line with Data Protection Act

Maintaining policy and procedure in line with best practice and Selfridges Values

  • Keeps self and team up to date on relevant legal changes and their impact on policy and procedure
  • Update and draft HR policies and procedures, and communicating any changes to the wider business as appropriate

ER data capture and analysis

  • Keep ER tracker up to date and accurate
  • Ensure consistency of advice and outcomes across the business
  • Analyse the HR stats pack, Soundbyte Survey and Exit Interviews, and assist HR Managers with driving the HR KPIs
  • Track and identify trends in cases to make informed decisions regarding interventions and training to reduce ER cases

Key skills and experience

  • Prior experience of managing employee relations cases within a retail environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • An ability to operate at pace and manage multiple cases at any one time
  • The ability to empathise
  • Client focussed approach with an ability to work with challenging internal customers
  • Achieve credibility through delivering great service and challenging where necessary
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills, with good attention to detail
  • Ability to make decisions using good judgement; pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Operate with professionalism and discretion, ensuring confidentiality wherever necessary
  • Good general IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Lotus Notes
  • CIPD qualified or working towards would be a preference
