Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Lead, based in Guildford, Surrey, Permanent.

At Surrey Police we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace, where our teams feel able to be themselves, bring every aspect of their character with them, to use their background and experience to help shape the way we deliver policing in our communities.

We’ve already made some changes, we understand the importance of difference and that diversity matters. We have taken this knowledge and experience and created an Inclusion team. We are now looking for an experienced E&DI professional to lead the team and drive our ambitions in this area.

More recently the Black Lives Matter movement, growing disparities in socio-economic groups being highlighted by the pandemic and the increase in hate crime reports show that there is still a huge amount of work to do across the whole of society if we are to have a truly inclusive society. As a service we interact with all members of society and are aware of the difficulties faced by many, difficulties that we do not want to exacerbate. We cannot change everything on our own but we at Surrey Police want to be a place where officers and staff feel able to be their authentic selves, enabling them to truly represent their communities and make a difference.

As Inclusion Lead you will be an integral part of our People Services team, working across Surrey Police to challenge our existing practices and involve everyone in making our organisation as diverse as the community we serve.

About You
  • You will have relevant experience of working in the field of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) at a senior officer level
  • You can make change happen - you can influence and be credible, build strong relationships and networks to deliver through other and get things done.
  • You are a critical Friend – you will be our expert, shaping and challenging our existing ways of doing things and bring new ideas and perspectives. When we make mistakes you will help us understand and adapt.
  • You are creative but realistic – you bring innovation and creativity but have strong sense of delivery, using new and existing channels to reach and engage with our communities.
  • You are driven – you have a passion to succeed and want to make a difference.
