Head of Learning – £56.5k pa, Bristol.

Your new role: This is one of a number of senior roles and you’ll enjoy an unrivalled opportunity to play a part in continued progress. This pivotal role supports the transformation and is focused on:

  • Contributing to the development and delivery of the people strategy and plans to drive improvement in policing outcomes through a healthy, inclusive, engaged and productive workforce. Designing and implementing a L&D strategy in a regulated environment through collaboration and innovation – managing the function overall rather than personally delivering training.

  • Embedding a learning culture across a large multidisciplinary organisation and upskilling at all levels including induction programmes through to leadership development. Embedding an inclusive culture into all training, learning and development, making sure it reflects the principles of valuing diversity, fairness and equality. Contributing to and developing regional and other collaborative arrangements and activities to maximise impact and best use of resources.

  • Managing and developing a large training team to provide outstanding learning, embed best practice, policies and procedures whilst always raising standards and efficiencies. Managing resources and outputs associated with providing a blended learning programme which works in a 24/7 operation. Building relationships and collaborating with both internal and external departments, partners and stakeholders to achieve organisational objectives.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage a large team of Trainers to ensure the delivery of thousands of learning interventions each year. Proven track record of effectively delivering through the team to achieve the essential standards and operational excellence in a multisite setting across a volume number of staff.

  • Ability to understand the needs of the organisation and stakeholders - translate this into a comprehensive learning programme which provides the required depth and breadth of knowledge, achieves desired behaviours and measurable outputs. Well versed in working in a complex change environment e.g. linking to organisational development initiatives, workforce planning and the national agenda. A questioning mind set to identify root issues, explore and provide alternative/innovative methods to change behaviours.

  • Ideally you are educated to degree level or a significant level of relevant experience of equivalence and membership of a relevant professional body. The post holder should ideally hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force using alternative transport. Please note: Vetting will be conducted on applicants.
