Are you passionate about people and operational effectiveness, with experience in operations or HR? Would you relish the opportunity to help manage and develop a leading small charity’s HR and operations processes during a period of significant growth?

Then join Switchback as our HR and Operations Officer and, working closely with our new COO, you will soon be responsible for how we recruit, onboard, and develop our passionate staff team and ensuring our operational systems and working culture enable them to be their best.

Building on 13 years of impact, Switchback is growing fast and setting our sights higher than ever, aiming to reach even more prison-leavers while inspiring change across the system. This means we need to attract, recruit, onboard and support more amazing people. At the same time, we need to guard and build on our fantastic and supportive team culture as we expand. That is where you will come in.

We are determined to ensure that Switchback’s team is more representative of the young men we support, so we’re especially keen to hear from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds or with lived experience of the criminal justice system or poverty.

About the role

Switchback is a unique place to work and we place people and their relationships at the heart of everything we do. Working closely with our new Chief Operating Officer (COO) you will take day-to-day management responsibility for our HR and people-related operational processes as we grow. You will refine and enhance our recruitment and onboarding practice, working with hiring managers to attract high quality hires to enable us to expand our team (currently 14 FTE) by nearly 100% over the coming year. You will help us to enhance our retention, wellbeing and performance management practice and processes. You will work with the leadership team to identify and implement training and development opportunities that add value to the team. You will provide high quality administrative and organisational support to our CEO. You will also support another key group of personnel in the Switchback family, the Board of Trustees, through ensuring the smooth management of Board meetings and key statutory processes.

About you

You will be an outgoing individual who is passionate about people and looking to take a greater responsibility in this area. You will be excited by the idea of helping others to be their best and putting in place systems and processes to make that possible. You will have fantastic attention to detail and an eye for operational improvement, and appreciate the value of good checklists. You will be attracted by working in a small, tight-knit team and excited about the opportunity to make significant contributions to developing our practice and processes in key operational areas. You will be hungry for the opportunity for growth presented by a growing team. Above all, you’ll have a passion for Switchback’s ambition and purpose as a charity.

About Switchback

You will be joining a small, dynamic team at an exciting time of growth and development for Switchback. We put our Trainees at the heart of everything we do and every role here is closely connected to our frontline work. In the world our Trainees live in, relationships come and go, but at Switchback we are proud to offer support that is both intensive and long term, enabling the potential for real, lasting change. In 2019, Switchback was the proud winner of the Longford Prize, recognised by the judges as “a focussed, inspiring resettlement charity that is a beacon of hope at a time of chaos”.

Please submit the following:

  1. Your CV
  2. Cover letter (max 600 words).
  3. A completed equalities monitoring form (this will be treated anonymously and separated from your application entirely).

Interviews: 1st round – Monday 28th June; 2nd round – Monday 5th July.
