Salary: Band 7, £32,547 - £36,613 pa, with the opportunity to progress to £39,993 pa

Responsible to: Head of Employee Relations and HR Business Partnering

Overview of post:

Having recently introduced a business partner model into the HR department, we are looking to recruit a HR Business Partner to join our newly created team.

Acting as the lead HR contact for a number of business areas, you will provide HR expertise and support in relation to a wide range of HR issues. You will offer advice on HR policy and procedure and actively coach and develop managers to ensure a pro-active, best practice approach to HR.   

Key duties:

  • Act as a business partner to a diverse range of departments and provide high quality, professional advice to the business on organisation design, restructuring and complex employee relations issues.
  • Support and coach managers through complex HR issues and provide HR expertise, advice and guidance on University policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of future staffing frameworks and support the job evaluation, recruitment and selection processes.
  • Play a proactive role in developing the HR Business Partner service, creating a cohesive, forward thinking, flexible offering.
  • Develop HR training sessions for staff and managers on a range of topics and promote best practice management behaviours
  • Support the HR senior management team with strategic HR projects and lead on key initiatives as directed.

Person Specification:

  • CIPD qualified (Level 7) with at least 2 years’ experience of a HR role in a large organisation.
  • Experience of dealing with complex HR casework, working with Trade Unions and an up to date knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of work and multiple priorities.
  • An ability to work in a flexible and collaborative manner.
  • An ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of people and the ability to inspire confidence.
  • A high level of tact, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Previous experience as a HR Business Partner would be desirable.

Although previous experience in the higher education sector is not a pre-requisite, s/he must be able to demonstrate commitment to the values of higher education.
