HR Manager Required for a Growing Family Business Established for Over 70 Years. £100 Million Turnover | 240 Staff Members Across 10 Sites

HR Manager | Contract: Permanent, Part-Time (25 hours per week)
Wallingford | Package c£40,000 pro rata

Who we are:


Much in the same way a car dealership sells and maintains vehicles, we provide an almost identical service within the Agricultural, Groundcare and Construction sectors. We’ve been doing this for just over seventy years and it’s fair to say that we have steadily grown to become one of the key names within these specialist fields. We’ve worked extremely hard to maintain the family values whilst always looking to the future and we now have a team of over two hundred and forty people who are involved in either Sales, Parts, Workshops, Finance, Marketing or Administration support who collectively deliver over one hundred million pounds of business.

Most aspects of HR have been handled by our Chairman and his long-suffering PA…and whilst many areas work extremely well, we also recognise the time is right to bring in some professional expertise. The right person would embrace the culture of the business and deliver on key areas such as recruitment, contracts, training, workforce planning, personnel reviews, incentive plans and policies. This is an important, broad ranging and hands-on role that is key to our continued success. We are therefore looking for someone with at least five years’ experience in a similarly demanding role and who can understand and engage with the entire team across our ten sites.

HR Manager Duties & Responsibilities:

+ Continual development of HR policy and procedures
+ Assisting managers in employee and people management matters
+ Be accessible to all employees
+ Manage complex employee relations casework including disciplinary matters, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy
+ Deal with recruitment, writing job descriptions and structuring interviews and assisting in interviews
+ Applying for references and carrying out Basic Disclosure checks
+ Develop and maintain training programmes both for new and current employees
+ Manage and review the appraisal system
+ Maintain accurate staff records including holiday and absence information, keeping them fully up to date
+ Prepare and maintain all employee contracts of employment
+ Keep up to date with current employment legislation
+ Awareness of GDPR in all matters

HR Manager Required Qualifications:

+ CIPD qualification preferred
+ A strong knowledge of current employment law and HR best practice
+ At least five years’ experience in a similar role
