Duties May Include:
Checking staff hours

Working as a Payroll Manager or Supervisor will include additional duties, heading up a team will require that you keep all staff fully trained and up to date with the latest legal requirements. You'll be expected to create new payroll policies and procedures, reporting back to your management team and ensuring that all computer systems are upto date.
Payroll staff are often on the 40 hours week, based in the office there can be opportunities to work part-time or take on temporary work. The alternative to this, is working from a payroll bureau, which specialises in running the payroll for other companies.
Starting out Payroll administrators will be on a salary of £13,000 - 18,000 a year. Working your way up will see your salary reach as high as £25,000. For a more managerial role, you should expect a salary of £20,000 -40,000 depending on your experience.
Most of your day is spent number crunching, confidence in your math skills is a high priority when working in payroll. You should be prepared to spend large periods of time at your desk using your computer and answering any staff enquiries by phone or email. The best prospects for internal promotions are often said to be in large organisations like the NHS or at the big banks and retailers.
